New York City is the New World’s eternal city, the famed melting pot of cultures and races it generates energy like no other. To these teaming streets came, a few years ago, three aspiring Dominican illustrators. Recently graduated from the Fine Arts/Illustration program at the Altos de Chavón School of Design they were awarded full scholarships to finish four years of study at the well-respected Parsons School of Design Illustration program. Each of these three young, eager, and talented Chavón graduates had come to the cold and often unforgivingly cruel city of their dreams to realize a dream. From the first, the shock and challenge to just survive, then create and compete, in this hostile, yet seductive environment was enormous. Each in his own way found a rhythm that eventually enabled a level of comfort and artistic productivity. All three now earn their living in the field of illustration, working in New York City. Their digital skills linked to their polished artistic talents have proven to be the one-two punch that allows them to find freelance or fulltime illustration work.
